Introducing Inés-AI: A Language Tutor Built in 15 Minutes—No Code Required
In the age of AI, you have two choices: be a user or be a builder. Remain just a user, and you risk becoming a subject of the Tech Bros’ dystopian vision of power and reality. Learn to build, and you gain the agency to shape AI around your own values and your vision of the world.
What Does It Mean to Be a Builder?
In a recent post, Frustrated with Learning Apps? What If You Could Build One That Works for You?, I shared my commitment to prototyping at least five AI-powered learning applications in 2025. The goal wasn’t just technical—it was personal. I wanted to take control of my own learning, and show what’s possible when you stop waiting for someone else to build what you need.
The first prototype I described was an interactive language tutor. I had struggled with traditional apps like Duolingo, especially with rigid, one-size-fits-all pathways. What I wanted instead was a tutor that could engage me in conversational role-play, adapt to my pace, and reinforce vocabulary in context.
That vision is now live.
You can try out the first prototype of the app here: Inés-AI
It was built in just 15 minutes—with no coding required.
This is a simple proof of concept, but it captures the essential experience:
You choose the language, scenario, and tutor role.
You practice through guided role-play.
You review vocabulary drawn from the session.
You take a short quiz to reinforce what you’ve learned.
It’s far from perfect, and there’s much more to build. But this is what it means to be a builder in the age of AI: to turn vision into reality, and to shape technology around your own needs and values. Next steps are to have the application run on open-source models.
